Can you wash a cashmere coat?

Washing a cashmere coat requires great care to avoid damaging the delicate fibers. Ideally, cashmere coats should be professionally dry-cleaned, but if you need to wash it at home, follow these steps:

Hand Washing:
1. **Use cold water:** Fill a basin with cold water, as hot water can shrink or distort cashmere.
2. **Gentle detergent:** Use a mild, cashmere-specific or wool detergent.
3. **Soak carefully:** Submerge the coat and gently swirl it around for a few minutes. Avoid wringing or stretching.
4. **Rinse thoroughly:** Drain the soapy water and refill with fresh cold water. Swirl the coat to remove soap residues. Repeat until the water runs clear.
5. **Press, don’t wring:** Press the coat gently to remove excess water. Never twist or wring cashmere as it can lose its shape.

Drying:
1. **Lay flat to dry:** Place the coat on a dry towel, reshape it, and roll the towel to absorb excess moisture.
2. **Reshape and air-dry:** Lay the coat on another dry towel or a flat surface, reshape it, and let it air-dry completely away from direct heat or sunlight.

Avoid Machine Washing or Drying:
Never use a washing machine or dryer for a cashmere coat, as they can cause shrinking, pilling, and damage the fabric.
